What Halal Certification Actually Requires
Halal certification for poultry goes well beyond the slaughter process. A genuinely certified product requires documented compliance throughout the entire supply chain — from how the birds are raised and what they’re fed, through slaughter and processing, to how the finished product is stored, handled, and shipped. Cross-contamination with non-halal products at any point compromises the certification.
When evaluating a halal chicken supplier, ask for their certification documentation — not just a verbal claim. A reputable supplier provides it without hesitation. Ask which certifying body issued it. Recognized bodies in Canada include HMA Canada, ISNA Canada, and IFANCC. These organizations audit facilities and maintain public directories of certified suppliers.
