The most important reason we launched Glacial Treasure was to give Ontario families a frozen chicken option they could feel good about buying. That starts with what’s actually in the package. Here’s an honest, plain-language breakdown of the ingredients in our Chicken Souvlaki.
Chicken (Ontario-Raised Where Possible)
The primary ingredient is exactly what you’d hope: chicken. Sourced from Ontario farms where possible, processed in our HACCP-certified Toronto facility, portioned into cubes and threaded onto skewers by our team. That’s the foundation of every skewer.
The Marinade
Our marinade is Anastasia Dikeos’s original Greek recipe: olive oil, fresh lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. That’s it. Six ingredients, all recognizable, all doing something specific.
Olive oil carries the marinade’s flavour into the chicken. Lemon juice provides the acid that helps break down the surface of the meat and tenderize it. Garlic gives depth. Oregano is the herbal anchor of Greek cooking. Salt seasons. Pepper adds warmth. Nothing is there just to fill space.
What’s NOT In It
Read the label on most competing frozen souvlaki products in an Ontario grocery store and you’ll find some combination of the following: sodium phosphate, modified corn starch, dextrose, sugar, xanthan gum, soy protein isolate, natural flavour, artificial colours, and preservatives like sodium nitrite. These ingredients aren’t there for flavour or quality. They’re there to extend shelf life, improve appearance after freezing, and reduce manufacturing cost.
None of these are in Glacial Treasure Chicken Souvlaki. Our core line is gluten-free, soy-free, and nitrite-free. The ingredient list is short because we chose to make it short.
Why This Matters
For families managing celiac disease or soy allergies, a clean-label frozen chicken option is difficult to find. For families that don’t have allergies but read labels, having a short, honest ingredient list is a signal that the product is what it claims to be. And for families who don’t read labels but eat what they buy, cleaner ingredients simply mean better food.
The Chicken Souvlaki on your Fortinos shelf has six marinade ingredients, plus chicken. That’s it. Read the label yourself. It’s exactly what it says.
