How to Read a Glacial Treasure Package: What Every Label Means

Food packaging can be confusing. Some labels mean a lot. Others mean almost nothing. Here’s a plain-language guide to what the labels on a Glacial Treasure package actually indicate — and by extension, how to evaluate the labels on any frozen chicken product.

HACCP Certified

This means the facility that produced the product operates under Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points — a globally recognized food safety management system with documented controls at every stage of production, regular third-party audits, and full traceability. It’s the food safety standard required by Ontario’s top hospitals and restaurant chains. Ours has been maintained since 2006.

Halal Certified

This means the product meets Islamic dietary requirements — from how the animal was raised through slaughter and processing, with no cross-contamination from non-halal products at any stage. A credible halal claim comes from a recognized certifying body like HMA Canada or ISNA Canada. Ours is documented and available on request.

IQF (Individually Quick Frozen)

This means each piece was flash-frozen individually before packaging. Practically, it means you can pull exactly the quantity you need from the bag without thawing the rest — no clumping, no ice blocks, no waste from partial thaw cycles.

Gluten-Free, Soy-Free, Nitrite-Free

Our core Glacial Treasure line has none of these ingredients. This matters for anyone managing celiac disease, soy allergies, or dietary preferences that exclude nitrites. It also indicates a cleaner formulation overall — most frozen chicken products contain these ingredients purely to extend shelf life or improve appearance.

Product of Ontario

Where possible, we source Ontario-raised chicken processed in our Toronto facility. This is a shorter supply chain, fresher product, and a local sourcing story that matters to more Ontario shoppers than ever.

What’s NOT on Our Labels

Absent from our packaging: exaggerated claims we can’t back up. No ‘all-natural’ language (undefined and largely meaningless). No ‘premium’ as marketing filler. If a claim is on our package, it’s because we can back it with documentation. That’s the standard three generations of the Dikeos family have set, and it’s the standard we hold ourselves to.
